Jewel Tea
Plate |
|
| This melamine plate was used as a sample by a Jewel Tea salesperson to
depict what the customer would receive if she bought a Photo Plate he was selling (the
customers own photo would be reproduced on the plate). Only about 1,000 of these
plates were produced for the salesmen. The photo on the plate is of historic interest. It appeared in a 1923 employee publication with the caption "This interesting picture shows Granny Hartney and salesman Harry J. Hicks, a sub-branch salesman of Monticello, Iowa, operating out of Clinton. Granny Hartney is a regular Jewel customer who lives alone and uses two pounds of coffee every two weeks. 101 years old, she drinks Jewel Best coffee fives times every day and lives in Cascade, Iowa, the home of Red Faber, star pitcher on the White Sox baseball team."
